Urgent
Winged Messengers
An extension of my Urgent series, Urgent: Winged Messengers utilizes the symbolism of various winged animals to respond to the ongoing situation of division, unrest and conflict in our world, calling attention to important, universal topics and issues concerning humanity. Such are conveyed through intricate compositions of mixed media, created through paper-cutting, collage, and assemblage, and other techniques.

Prophecy
Image transfer and paper collage on canvas
38 1/4" x 24 1/4" x 3/4"
2024
The ravens, symbolic of what is to come, alert us to the continuous passage of time. Time stops for no one. Each of us has the capacity to use our time wisely. Time is precious, so it is crucial that we prioritize what is truly important.

Omen
Image transfer and paper collage with acrylic on canvas

The vulture, a scavenger, waits as it looms over our declining earth, which continues to see the profound and rapid effects of climate change, from air and water pollution to drought to forest fires. Such is an urgent call to take action in our daily lives to save our planet, in the hope of preserving the only world that we have.

New Dawn (Strength, Faith, Hope)
Mixed media on canvas
31 1/2" x 42 1/2" x 9 1/4"
2024
Dedicated to all those throughout the world who are displaced as a result of violent conflict, often with nothing left of their homes from which they are forced to flee. Many do not live through such adversity and suffering, and those who do endure an ongoing struggle to survive. The dragonflies are symbolic of strength, faith, and hope, just as all those affected find themselves in need of these three distinct qualities—strength to push through each day, faith in circumstances beyond their control, and hope for a new dawn, a new life. It is important that we recognize the plight and continued resilience of these countless individuals, as well as strive to support diplomatic efforts to prevent and end wars, and advocate for humanitarian aid.

Red Butterfly
Mixed media on canvas
27" x 37 1/2" x 1 3/4"
2024
A woman—held captive in the darkness of the present reality—dreams of a day when all women are released from gender-based inequality, prejudice, discrimination, and violence. Women’s rights are human rights; women are human beings, so they deserve the same fundamental rights, from education to a fair wage to freedom from persecution. We cannot have a free and equal society until everyone is free and equal.

Release
Mixed media bricolage
18 3/4" x 19 1/2" x 16 1/4"
2024–2025
A nude female figure, devoid of limbs, stands armored in a metallic sheen. A cage takes the place of her head, yet a suspended metal hand grasps it from the top, preparing to remove it from her body. Another hand emerges from an opening in the cage, holding a butterfly and beckoning it to take off as others wrap around the figure’s body, newly released from their confines. A pair of graceful wings extend from the figure’s backside, enabling her too to fly, and thus adapt in spite of all that has been withheld from her. The suspended red heart inside the cage is intended to symbolize the power, courage, and resilience that cannot be removed from any woman.

COEXIST (Panel 1 of 2)
Mixed media on canvas (diptych)
24" x 36" x 3/4" (each canvas)
2025
Many of us dream of a world with peaceful and harmonious coexistence, and we can refer to no better example than nature. Just as some species thrive through teamwork and communal care, we can prioritize social bonds, selfless cooperation, and mutual support over selfish pursuits. Their “live in the moment” philosophy—reconciling after disputes rather than harboring resentment—can remind us to release grudges and practice forgiveness. We can adapt these traits by reducing unnecessary aggression and fostering a deeper, compassionate connection to each other. Taking cues from the social cohesion of wildlife, we can transcend our conflicts and work toward a more nurturing, interconnected coexistence.

Rise
Mixed media assemblage and collage
45" x 45½" x 11½"
2025
The Tree of Life is a significant and widely recognized symbol across numerous cultures and belief systems. It represents the ever-growing, interconnected, and cyclical nature of existence, signifying the mutual relationship between the physical and spiritual realms. The natural elements—earth, air, water, and fire—are considered fundamental to the harmony among all things in the universe. When this harmony is disrupted, instability and chaos result.
Amidst the ruins of the division, conflict, and destruction in our world, we must tap into our indomitable human spirit so we can rise above our obstacles and adversities. By harnessing the life force of air, the flow and adaptability of water, the passion and energy of fire, and the grounded stability of earth, we can adapt to the challenge of an ever-changing world, growing stronger and letting our hope lift us as we continue to strive for harmony and peace among all of humanity.

Will the Phoenix Rise Again?
Mixed media on canvas
2026
The phoenix—resilient, transformative renewing—bursts into flames to be born again from its ashes. Its spirit of endurance is akin to that of humanity, as we bear ongoing self-inflicted crises—war, environmental collapse, social decay—yet we have the capacity to learn, rebuild, and evolve from our destruction. Amidst a future of darkness and uncertainty, the phoenix must rise again. We hope to rise again.
